Bedtime Stories — by Ezra Cohen

In shimmering green forests
Where strange, bright creatures play in shadows

Beside rivers flashing silver which carry them downstream
Past red talking-birds

Into the green heart of the imagination
(For the stories children tell are beautiful and brightly-painted)

Over the green-winged butterfly who flies into the brilliance
And the yellow winding-snake

The wind travels from blue places
Past the creatures and the river

And the red talking-birds
Who draw nearer to listen
